What is Tolerance. The word is everywhere these days. The Heads of State promotes tolerance, practice tolerance, religious groups, teachers in universities and classrooms around the world preaching the importance of religious and moral tolerance. Despite that it is the practice of preaching tolerance and the effect is the same: individuals and groups to achieve the same moral superiority to be tolerant. The concept of tolerance as a style of living is rooted in our culture: the history of the Old Testament, , intolerant Jonah illustrates the virtue of tolerance. Jonah blind belief that only Jews deserve God’s forgiveness leads him to defy the Lord and went to Niveveh and telling people to clean up their act; Jonah intolerance land him in the belly of a whale for three days, and therefore the next time the Lord told him to go to Niveveh it obeys. When people Niveveh to repent, Jonah is angry - he hoped that the wrath of God to destroy these pagans. The story of Jonah clearly illustrates the evils of intolerance.Instead for us to celebrate our differences, perhaps neutrality, tolerance allows us to focus on them. In addition, tolerance allows us to pass judgments on others, not only with insurance, but in public as if we have nothing to hide. The idea of tolerance legitimizes our prejudices, and thus destroys the real task of a truly democratic society: equality for all peoples, brotherhood and freedom.
